Our People
Management Board

We are continually seeking people to volunteer for positions on the board as it is important to have representatives from all areas of the community, with varying backgrounds and a wide range of skills; from management, planning, evaluation, finance and education etc.

Kirsty Veron – Board Member

Kirsty was an arts manager and administrator for more than 40 years, in a range of capacities and across several artforms, in Townsville, Darwin and Brisbane. In early years, she also taught music and performed as an actor and musician.

She worked for two years as manager of BoardConnect, a program that provided governance advice to not-for-profit organisations and she spent seven years on the Board of Flying Arts Alliance. She is a peer assessor for Arts Queensland.

Kirsty has a Master of Creative Arts (JCU), a Bachelor of Arts (UNE) and an Associate Diploma of Performing Arts (JCU). In 1996, she was awarded a Townsville City Council Arts, Culture and Entertainment Award for “Outstanding Service to Arts & Culture”.

Peter Johnston – Board Member

Peter grew up in Longreach on a sheep and cattle property. Peter was a practising vet in Queensland for many years. The family moved to the Atherton Tablelands in 2010 with their son Tom who had suffered a severe head injury from a horse accident while mustering in 1997. The move for retirement was for a more suitable climate for them all. Peter wants to contribute to the ongoing wellbeing of disabled people in the district and enjoy being part of the focused and dedicated group that is Disability Matters.

Robert Clauss – Board Member

Robert is the Local Business Manager for Westpac and he is an ardent advocate for Disability Matters. Robert was born and raised in the local area. He has strong connections with the community and small businesses and is passionate about equality and equal opportunities for all.
