What we do - it's all about you

Disability Matters provides invaluable disability support services to the local community and is pro-active in advocating for the rights of people living with a disability & their family. We take a person centered approach to all supports, focusing on making sure a person with a disability is at the centre of all decisions and actions that relate to their life and their support.

NDIS pre planning assistance and advice together

The The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing support that takes a lifetime approach. Your first plan is the start of a lifelong relationship with the NDIS. That is why it is so important to take the time to plan well for your first plan and all your future plans. Disability Matters are on hand to help make your journey as smooth as possible.

The NDIS can be confusing and daunting to navigate. We offer a free pre-planning and advice service to help ensure you get the support you need included in your NDIS plan.

Our assistance will help to identify all the informal, community and mainstream services you already have and any reasonable and necessary supports you need to include in your NDIS plan to achieve your goals.

We will discuss your goals with you ahead of your conversation with the NDIS. You can clarify your thoughts and develop your ideas about what you want to achieve through your supports and services. We will answer all of your questions about the NDIS.

You will be informed, your plan will take less effort and you will have peace of mind knowing that you are ready to get the supports you want included in your new plan. Contact us now to arrange a time to talk.

Individual support for you - in home or in the community

Disability Matters provides individual support to clients either in their own home or in the community.

Whether it’s personal care, capacity building to develop independent living skills in and around the home or even help with household tasks, Disability Matters can help to provide personalised supports for you.

We can assist with social and community participation and the development of daily living skills. We also have staff that can provide employment and education support. Members of our Coordination team are also trained in behaviour management and can offer you strategies for managing behaviours.

Our staff have received training on the importance of focusing on client goals at each support shift and reporting on those goals. Including people with a disability in community life helps build more inclusive and diverse communities. It enriches community life for everyone and helps break down barriers and promote better understanding.

We promote community inclusion by providing support to clients who desire to:

  • Maintain and develop life skills and increase independence
  • Continue learning and participate in meaningful leisure, recreational, social and cultural activities
  • Participate and be included in the local community
  • Have active and valued roles in the community
  • Expand friendships and support networks
  • Be supported in making the transition from school to adult life

We have an amazing team of dedicated and experienced staff and we conduct recruitment of new staff on a regular basis. Many of our staff have completed their Certification III in Individual Support and we have also put many of our staff through high intensity workshops so they have the required skills to support individuals who need that extra level of care.

You will be informed; your plan will take less effort and you will have peace of mind knowing that you are ready to get the supports you want included in your plan when the NDIS rolls out in our region on 1 July 2018. Contact us now to arrange a time to talk.

If you are already receiving supports from Disability Matters, we will get in touch with you to assist you in preparing for rollout in our area.

The NDIS is giving people living with disability more choice and control over the supports you access, but having a plan is only the first step. Opting to be plan managed over agency or self-managed gives you freedom of choice as well as freedom from the obligations of paying and storing invoices. While agency management is the default that is offered by the NDIS, it has restrictions placed on which service providers you can use and how much you can spend on them. With plan management, your options are far broader, keeping you in control of your own life. Be sure to request plan management in your funding, and there are no additional costs to you. Disability Matters is here to work with you to maximise the benefits of your NDIS plan.
