Disability Matters has been working actively in the local Tablelands community to provide help and understanding with quality disability support care since 1990.

ABOUT US

Disability Matters has been working actively in the community to provide help and understanding with quality disability support care since 1990. Formed in response to community need, the organisation was originally known as Tableland Respite Care Association. The name was changed in May 2016 to better communicate what the organisation is all about – Disability Matters to us.

Disability Matters offers disability support services to the Tablelands region and also an extended catchment area from Cardwell to Cape York.

Disability Matters operates from Heraghty House at 39 Robert St, Atherton. The building was officially opened in October 2015 and has been named in honour of Pat Heraghty who was a founding member of the Board and involved with the organisation for many years. The building has office space, meeting and interview rooms. Our large meeting room is available for hire and is used by other local organisations for training sessions and seminars.

WHY CHOOSE US?

Professional Staff

All Disability Matters staff are dedicated to the wellbeing of the person they look after and take pride in what they do. They are required to meet our selection criteria and undergo safety checks including a National Police Offender check and a Working With Children check. We research their career history, ability to perform duties and conduct reference checks. Our staff are reliable, caring and compassionate individuals.

Person-Centred Approach

Disability Matters takes a person-centred approach to our support so that the person with the disability is at the centre of the decision making processes and the design of the support plan. You and your family are supported to exercise greater choice and control over your services, how they are delivered and by whom. We aim to be responsive to your needs and preferences.
